PUBLICATIONS"I believe Leading to Choices is a seminal work that will greatly impact the field of women's human rights and empowerment...It will help more than one generation of women think of themselves as leaders within their own societies and cultures. This is what I hope to achieve for Afghan women and girls through a collaborative program with WLP in Pakistan...The leadership handbook that WLP has created in partnership with other NGOs in the Global South is an invaluable model for participatory and collaborative leadership training and capacity building." WLP produces culture-specific training curriculum for women in the Global South, particularly Muslim-majority societies. In cooperation with WLP, these training materials are translated, adapted, and tested by women's organizations indigenous to the intended participant group. We create a range of multimedia materials to document our South-South and South-North dialogues - panels, symposia, and virtual meetings of prominent leaders and activists addressing major challenges to women and girls in the Global South. Other publications address issues of gender, rights, development and peace. Our translation series makes available to the developed and developing worlds works of importance to women produced in the Global South. Training Curriculum:Our signature manual Leading to Choices: A Leadership Training Handbook for Women has been used in interactive leadership training workshops with thousands of participants in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Building on the success of this manual, we developed Leading to Choices: A Multimedia Curriculum for Leadership Learning, which consists of three videos on effective communication, interactive facilitation, and advocacy for change, and has been used in training of trainers for hundreds of NGO leaders and activists. Making IT Our Own: Information & Communication Technology Training of Trainers Manual is an innovative technology trainer’s manual developed by Women’s Learning Partnership for use in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training workshops and training-of-trainers Institutes. The goal of the trainings is to provide technology skills for gender justice and human rights advocacy. Leading to Action: A Political Participation Handbook for Women is a learning tool for those challenging themselves to play a more significant role in their communities. Developed by Women’s Learning Partnership for use in workshop settings, the handbook contains ten sessions examining the barriers to political participation and strategies for ethical political leadership. Also included in the appendices are resources for political activity at local, national, and international levels. We are currently developing a new training manual for Organizational Capacity Building. Multimedia Materials:WLP generates multimedia materials for radio, video/television, CD-ROM, and the Internet. These materials are based on WLP events, such as panels and symposia, as well as the experiences of our partner organizations working for women's rights. Our multimedia materials support and augment our programs by addressing the following themes: leadership and empowerment, ICT capacity building, women's human rights, culture of peace, and political participation. Other Publications:The first volume in our Translation Series Guide to Equality in the Family in the Maghreb (2005) is an innovative advocacy tool for reform of the family law in Muslim-majority societies. The Guide outlines a process that relates meaningful social change to women's capability to make deliberate and thoughtful choices. The second volume in our Translation Series Iranian Women's One Million Signatures Campaign for Equality: The Inside Story (2010) details the history, strategies, and values that brought together a diverse group of Iranian women, men, and rights activists for the well-known women’s equality campaign. It is a valuable case study of a new model for grassroots movements in the twenty-first century, applicable not only in societies ruled by autocratic governments or influenced by radical fundamentalism, but also in more open and tolerant societies that have yet to achieve full equality for women. WLP's President Mahnaz Afkhami has edited a number of essay collections, including Toward a Compassionate Society (2002), Muslim Women and the Politics of Participation (1997), and Faith and Freedom: Women's Human Rights in the Muslim World (1995).
