Leading to Choices Leadership Curriculum Now Available on CD-ROM

Leading to Choices CD WLP has recently adapted for CD-ROM the leadership training tools in Leading to Choices: A Multimedia Curriculum for Leadership Learning. The 2 disk set consists of the training manual, Leading to Choices: A Leadership Training Handbook for Women, three learning guides and three companion videos on enhancing women’s facilitation, communication, and advocacy skills, and an overview that provides sample schedules for ways these tools can be used in a workshop setting. WLP collaboratively developed the curriculum and materials with women’s rights activists and our partner organizations in Afghanistan, Cameroon, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, and Uzbekistan. New: Assamese and Swahili Editions of WLP’s Leadership Handbook

WLP recently published the Assamese and Swahili editions of the prototype leadership handbook Leading to Choices: A Leadership Training Handbook for Women. WLP’s partner in India, the Centre for Organization Research & Education (CORE), facilitated the adaptation and publication of the Assamese edition of the handbook. The handbook, which will be used primarily in northeastern India to train women living in conflict situations in peace building. WLP’s Zimbabwean partner, the Women’s Self-Promotion Movement (WSPM) is using the Swahili edition of the handbook to conduct leadership training workshops with refugees living in Zimbabwe. Proceedings of “Clash or Consensus” Human Security Conference Available on CD

Clash and Consensus CD The audio proceedings of WLP’s international conference “Clash or Consensus: Gender and Human Security in a Globalized World” that was held in Washington, DC in October 2003 are now available on CD. Six panels discussed human security in relation to development, human rights, religious fundamentalisms, democratic governance, and post-conflict reconstruction. The CD also includes the opening address by Mary Robinson as well as the concluding remarks by WLP President, Mahnaz Afkhami. Iraqi and Palestinian Women Take on Key Leadership Roles

Two members of WLP’s network made international headlines recently for their appointment to new leadership positions. Zahira Kamal, a member of WLP’s International Advisory Council, was appointed Minister of Women’s Affairs in Palestine. Ms. Kamal previously served as Coordinator of the Women’s Affairs Technical Committee, WLP’s partner organization in Palestine. Also in the news, Rend Rahim Francke was appointed Iraq’s Ambassador to the United States by the Iraqi Governing Council in December 2003. Ms. Francke is a founding member of the Iraq Foundation and has served as Executive Director since 1991. WLP congratulates these courageous women and supports their efforts to help build egalitarian and democratic societies.
